New Destiny Life Coaching and The Socratic Questioning Method

By D Anthony, New Destiny Life Coaching, June 2011

Included on my list of favorite comedies, is most certainly a not too widely-known Burt Reynolds offering entitled, "The End". In the movie, Burt's character, following a terminal medical prognosis, and succumbing to feelings of self-pity and fear - comes to believe that life has neither purpose nor relevance. As a result, much of the movie is spent with him endeavoring to devise elaborate, preferably pain-free approaches for him and his less than stable recruited accomplice - to end his perceived useless life.

The Socratic Method
In an inspirational article entitled "Who I Am", featured in my book, "The Nurse in the Delivery Room Slapped Me… Once", I recounted a jewelry store advertisement heard some time back. The ad indicated (paraphrasing) that, more than anything else worn, the watch is the most personal and telling item relative to our personality and style. After which, the announcer suggests the listening audience make their way to their store so a highly trained specialist can present each with the perfect watch for him or her.

I was perplexed? After all, if the watch was truly so personally representative of the owner, how could a complete stranger, regardless of experience, select the perfect watch for me? That would seem to be a responsibility for which only I was equipped.

Similarly, given the highly personalized and subjective nature of the way happiness and fulfillment are defined… How is it really possible for New Destiny Life Coaching to define what the path is to true happiness and fulfillment to you? The answer is simple… We can't - and thus, we won't.

Ultimately Your Truth Can Only Originate Within You...

That answer can only legitimately originate from one source… you. New Destiny Life Coaching's purpose is to inspire, empower, challenge and, as needed, proactively nudge - that, working together; we draw out, refocus and clarify the golden nuggets of data which ultimately lay claim to your maximized happiness and fulfillment… which ultimately lay claim to your maximized life.

How do we do this? Well, beyond loads of compassion, empathy, encouragement, passion, inspiration, perseverance, perspective, brutal honesty when needed and an unyielding commitment to fostering (for the clients) maximized lives - at NDLC, we're big believers in the Socratic Questioning Method.

That's right! We're so committed to you having the absolute most maximized life possible that we were willing to trudge all the way through the annals of time back to the times of the great Greek philosopher Socrates. (Due to the fact that his constructs and methodology was documented and passed down to this day however, there was no need for us to trudge. But, we were willing just the same.)

Socratic Questioning is a methodology that instigates revelation of the truth via disciplined, rigorous questioning. Essentially, it is through answering the disciplined, rigorous questions that incomplete thoughts, inconsistencies and direct conflicts reveal themselves - thus facilitating any necessary clarification and amendment.

And utilizing this methodology to discern what actually matters to the individual is both incredibly powerful and immensely empowering. Typically to the amazement of clients, it is a scenario that plays itself out time after time in life coaching sessions. One that leaves invaluable and unmistakable clarity and direction in its wake…

So, you see… We're not going to tell you what you the secret to unlocking the maximum degree of happiness and fulfillment in your life. We're going to equip, inspire and empower you unearth it and tell us.
